Fun Saturday Afternoon in the Kitchen

Hello Readers,

There's nothing better than going grocery shopping and then getting to make stuff with your new stuff!  It's even better if you get lots of deals, and use coupons!  Fun, fun, fun!!  So I started a sort of New Year's Resolution, but not really, but kind of that I should make something off my Pinterest every week.  Yeah, whatever, it makes me feel cool.  And of course I go for the recipes the most, and today I made two recipes!

The first one:

Freezer Breakfast Burritos  http://pinterest.com/pin/32088216064759554/

Yes, I said it, and yes, I did it!  I made them!  But of course I didn't completely follow the recipe, do I ever?!?!  Anyhoo, I only used a pound of breakfast sausage, and then after that was cooked I used the same pan to cook the eggs in, mmmmm, extra flavor.  I only used 6 eggs instead of 12, whatever, I can't afford 12 eggs on one recipe!  And I added milk and cayenne to my eggs.  Then after the eggs were done I had some frozen pepper strips and I heated them up a little bit.  Next I assembled the burritos, I didn't measure anything just eyeballed it.  I used taco blend cheese, sounded good to me, and just plain tortillas.  I was able to make 9 burritos, and they're now individually wrapped in foil in my freezer.  I think these will help me get through mornings at school because of all the protein I'll be getting.  Plus I decided to add the peppers to give me some more vitamin C, cause who can't use more vitamin C?  I cannot wait to eat these bad boys!!!

The second recipe I made was:

Peanut Butter Granola Bars found at:  http://www.howsweeteats.com/2011/01/5-ingredient-peanut-butter-granola-bars/

So as I'm sure you can guess I didn't follow everything perfectly, surprise, surprise.  I used the oats, and kind of eyeballed the peanut butter, same with the honey.  I roughly chopped my own peanuts, and threw them in.  I also roughly chopped some chocolate chips, and ground some flaxseeds for the omegas.  I sprinkled on some cinnamon over the top, because I forgot to mix it in, but it smelled amazing.  I let them sit out for awhile and tried to cut them up and they were still warm and crumbly, so I put them in the fridge in order for them to solidify.  These are for my husband's lunches, so we want them to be uniform and easy to eat.

This was lots of fun and didn't take much time or cleanup, in fact, I already have the dishwasher going and I'm not even exhausted, yeah, seriously!  So we haven't tried the breakfast burritos yet, but we tried the granola bars and they're very good, and complex, baked honey has such a lovely taste.  Both were fun to make, and I did two Pinterest things off my list!

Enjoy your time in your kitchen!
